A Second Mortgage

I am thinking ahead - for when my two boys are in their teens - and planning on taking out a second mortgage.

I truly believe that my boys will eat me out of house - we will need a mortgage to pay our food bill when the boys reach 14 and 15.

Why do I know this????

The boys came home from camp complaining I did not pack them enough food.

Let's see - they are 3 and 4 years old and weigh in at 41 and 44 pounds respectively and here is a list of what was packed for their two snacks and lunch:

1 whole jam sandwich
1 large banana
1 corn on the cob (they each asked for it!)
1 pre-packaged container of apple sauce
1 pre-packaged container of fruit cocktail
10 mini pretzels mixed with a handful of fishie crackers and 10 mini chocolate chips
4 whole grain crackers and 4 pieces of cheddar cheese and a few raisins

Their lunch bags weighed almost as much as they did!

Now, granted, neither ate their fruit cocktail cups, that seems like a lot of food for two little guys.

If this is the amount of food they are eating now - GOD HELP US when they become teenagers!!!

Heck, last week when renewing our Costco membership I discovered that in a year we spend the equivalent to one-third of my part time salary at that wonderful big-box store. Needless to say we upgraded our basic membership this year!

Well, better get working on that application for a second mortgage! Fingers crossed we get approved before the next growth spurt hits!

Wow, you have yourself some eaters there....

Here's hoping you have collateral for that loan...you know, something your kids can't eat? ;)

I know. I know. I know! My boys are the same way!
All three of them eat more for lunch than I do all day. It is INSANE!!!
A lady actually laughed at me at the grocery store because she said she is picturing my grocery bill when they are teenagers. Gee thanks, lady!

Wow.

They must be growing. I can't imagine our grocery bills 10 years from now. And yours too!

Ha. Second mortgage sounds about right!

Growing boys! My son just started 7th grade and it doesn't get better! The second mortgage might be a good idea. LOL

I feel your pain. Choosing a lunch bag for the 2 year old, my one thought was that it needs to be big enough.

Oh, my. You are in for it.

A second mortgage? Maybe you should start planting a veggie and fruit garden now . . .

They do sound like big eaters -- that's great that they wanted corn on the cob, though.
Little Elvis has days like that where he seems like a goat that never gets full.

You are totally on the money. In the past 3 years our Costco rebate cheque (2% I think) has gone from 53 dollars to 187 dollars for the year.
My eldest has gone from 10 to 13 in those years.

It just hit me the other day how much food our kids are going to eat in a couple of years. I already have had to double what I cook in the last year. I'm going to have to get an industrial sized kitchen!

I am feelin' ya! And I only have 1 boy!! Thank goodness he likes the healthy stuff (apples, carrots etc) but with the cost of produce I might be better off if he likey-d the chippies!!
