Caught Red Handed

For my volunteer day at the boys' preschool we decided to make popcorn balls. A really easy treat that involves popcorn, marshmallows, a bit of butter and food colouring. We decided to use red food colouring.

Here is a photo of our special treat:

The few drops of red food colouring make the marshmallows turn a carnival pink and the treats look like candy corn.

And here is a photo of Madigan....caught red handed after handling the red food colouring!

Note, this photo was taken after a face cloth scrub, one extended bath time scrub and one sleep.

Anyone know how long red food colour taints the skin?!?!??!?!!? If you do not, I'll be sure to update you on our findings!

Notice her arms, face and feet...she also has a perfect baby hand print on the back of her bald head, and her tummy is full of splotches and if you look closely, her face is a bit tainted as well.

Oh good gracious! Poor Maddy!!!

I made some homemade buttercream icing for Zachary's birthday cake (his 3rd birthday, if I recall, it was Spiderman and required a lot of red). It took days for it to come out completely. I warned all parents before the cake was handed out that the red tended to stain much more than any other colour. I discovered that as I was doing the buttercream transfer - the full icing was done a couple of weeks before his party and then transfered to his cake the day before his party.

I say next year go green.

And no, I have NO idea how long that lovely red stuff lasts. But does it come off the clothes?

Oh my.... that is too funny. Love the one red foot. I've heard vinegar will take off food coloring. Good luck... this did make me hungry for some popcorn ball though. Yummm!

Bag of unpopped popcorn ............ $1.95
Package of food coloring................ $3.95
Seeing your cute little daughter with red feet and hands........................Priceless!

I'm guessing it will be on there for quite
a while.

Poor Madigan.

Poor you.

I too would like to see a photo of the handprint on the head.

Wow-- there's a colorful girl! I have no idea how long red lasts, but pink hangs on for about a week. We made footprints when the baby girl was born and then had to explain it to the doctor over a week later...

On her toes too?

There must be a great blog post behind that. Do tell! ;)
